Shika no tone (The Distant Call of the Deer) perhaps is the most famous musical piece of the Japanese tradition Kinko Ryu. A sonata of the old honkyoku style genre. This is a shakuhachi duet performed by Ricardo Zapata sensei explained breath-by-breath. To understand Shika no Tone, imagine an autumn dyed an orange mixture of its reddish and yellow leaves covering everything, and there between the mountains a male deer calling his female. Duet flutes describe a dialogue with each other between passages that show emotion, intense climax and calm.
