Our Odake Chokan Shakuhachi series are professional jinashi, jiari and jimori flutes with deep tone, wide tessitura, warm range and low frequency. Made of selected bamboo with and without root-end, thick walls of great resonance and impeccable aesthetics. Balanced and accurately tuned. Available with natural blowing edge or exclusive inlay precision mouthpiece cutting-edge design by master Zapata, reference Singing Bat Mouthpiece (Koumori).

The long bamboo tubes are bass flutes, catalogued with the Japanese term Chokan, also known as "hochiku" or bamboo of dharma. They vary in our stock from 2.1 to 3.0 feet in length, as they provide a wide tessitura of warm tones and deep tonalities and are still very comfortable to play, thanks to our ergonomic hole placement design.

They are instruments that are directly associated with Buddhist meditative practice due to their low frequencies that offer a deep sound and warm tonalities. Check out our video on flute tuning by key to get a better approximation of the sound you are looking for. The longer the flute, the lower and deeper the frequency.

We offer the natural sound of bamboo in our instruments. Our Odake bamboo bass flutes have a perfect resonance thanks to the special thickness of the bamboo walls. This bamboo has been grown at 1000-1400 meters altitude and strengthened by different temperatures for almost 3 years. Cured and dried for 2 years before the flute is hand worked in a delicate and patient curing process performed personally by master Zapata, to create a flute ready for concert, studio recording or home studio practice. From the bamboo forests to the stage.
