These study cycles are a comprehensive guide to understanding the art of shakuhachi and the discipline of blowing meditation (suizen). The course is based on the profound study experience of Master Ricardo Zapata's teaching-learning method.
It is a great study guide for people with or without experience in musical studies. This breath-by-breath online study guide teaches you basic concepts of the instrument in each cycle and level of study. With the shakuhachi master course you can learn: the basic postures, exercises and breathing patterns, history and philosophy of the art, how to blow and produce sound with the flute, play your first sonata from the first level and advance with a more complex musical repertoire that includes honkyoku or classic komuso sonatas (such as shika no tone, mukaiji reibo, kokuji, shinkyorei, kumoi jishi, honshirabe, among others). Traditional Japanese music and folklore and our own repertoire created in detail for you to develop mastery of the instrument. Improvise, learn Japanese musical grammar, learn musical composition, assemble with other musical instruments such as the koto, shamisen, guitar, piano, harmonize with other flutes.
Each study cycle includes detailed MP3 audios, explained and synchronized with phrase-by-phrase Japanese scores, contains high quality video files with detailed instruction of each sonata and instrument techniques, notation sheet and fingering chart with shakuhachi notes, each cycle comes with a complete instruction booklet in pdf format for your study and follow-up of the content of each cycle. You receive 24 hours of 1-on-1 tutoring with Zapata sensei that you can schedule via zoom in your time zone. Course available in English and Spanish.
